The Karachi Zoo, spread over an area of 43 acres, is one of the ancient and biggest Zoo in Pakistan, functioning under the umbrella of Recreation, Department, KMC, established as back as in 1870.

The prime objective of the Zoo is to provide edutainment, amusement and Recreational facilities to the people of Karachi, mostly from diverse community coming from far flung areas of  Karachi Metropolis/Pakistan. The average foot-fall is estimated to 3-3.5 (Million) annually.  

The main attractions, amongst the animals, are Elephant, Tiger, Lion, Chimpanzee, Crocodile,  Ostrich, Cassowary, Python etc, besides Greenery, Forestry, Historical Fountain, Band Stand, Beaumont Lawn and Mughal Garden etc.

OBJECTIVE OF ZOO

Conservation of Animals and their display.

To provide recreation, entrainment and edutainment facilities to the visitors/students.

SCOPE/FUNCTIONS OF ZOO.

Planning, development and maintenance of infrastructure of Zoo.

Procuring, protection and breeding of animals, Mammals, birds and Reptiles for conservation of animals and education recreation of public.

Preparation and execution of schemes for keeping the animals healthy and robust.

To educate people/visitors about biological phenomena of captive animals.

To protect property, assets and animals of Zoo from being theft, damages and other hazardous atmospheric conditions. 

To utilize best use of the services of manpower especially the Technical Staff, such as, Veterinarian, Zoologist, Para-Vet, Taxidermist Zoo Overseer, Zookeepers and Gardening Staff etc., to cater the day to day essential work of up-keeping the Zoo and the  animals under conservation.
